Rufus A. Baird was the son of James M. Baird and Virginia Ann Hill. He was born in Chickasaw Co, MS and moved to Marion County in the early 1870's. He served as Sheriff of Marion County and also had a store with his brother, Stephen J. Baird. Stephen J. Baird married Emily B. Clark, Sallie C. Clark's sister. They were faithful members of the First Baptist Church in Guin, Alabama and part of the Masonic Lodge.
