Corporal Blake was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy at the Boulder City outpost, the last Marine engagement during the Korean War, on July 24, 1953. Corporal Blake was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Son of Earl and Olive Frances Buchanan Blake. Siblings were Kenneth and Thelma Irene Blake. At the time of Robert's death his mother was remarried, with the new name of Mrs. Olive Frances Marshall. Robert joined the Marines on June 12, 1950.
