He was the only member of his family to emigrate from the Netherlands to America. Martin arrived in Iowa in 1855. He had two sisters and one brother.
Martin and Pauline Vander Schoor were married December 14, 1864 in Pella, Marion, Iowa.

Martin Berkenbosch living northwest of Monroe, died May 8th, 1907. He had been in poor health for some time, although able to be around until about the day before his death.
He was born in the Netherlands on the 26th of May, 1831. He Emigrated from that country and arrived at Pella, July 4, 1855.
He was married to Miss Paulina van der Schoor Dec. 14, 1864. There was born unto this union eleven children, two of whom died in infancy, and the others with the widow, are left to mourn the loss of the departed father.
He became a member of the Reformed Church while yet a young man and since then has remained faithful to the teachings of God's word.
The funeral occurred from his late residence Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and was led by Rev. F.B. Mansen, of Pella.
