She was the daughter of Elisha and Elizabeth (Davis) Brown. She was baptized in Cambridge, MA, on Mar. 30, 1746, at the First Congregational, Unitarian Church.

She was first married to Isaac Davis. They wed Oct. 24, 1764 in Acton, MA. They had 2 daughters and 3 sons all born in Acton, MA. He died in 1775.

Samuel left for the new country opening along the delta of the Mississippi River near the Gulf. In due course he sent for them. Dutiful wife that Hannah was, she loaded a wagon with her family and arrived in New Orleans without mishap. They went to Natchez, where her husband died in 1796 of yellow fever. After her husband passed, she and her children returned to Acton, MA.

Her third husband was Francis Leighton of Westford, MA. They wed in Acton, MA, on Nov. 21, 1802. Francis died in Westford, MA, on Apr. 9, 1806.

Hannah survived a shipwreck off the coast of Cape Cod and operated a "Dame School" in her home.
