Fred Morgan, prominent citizen and business man of Hayti, died at his home in that city Friday at 7:30 p.m. He had been in poor health only a few weeks, and was confined to his room for several days. He collapsed and fell in the arms of his wife and suddenly expired in the bathroom. The deceased was 54 years of age, a native of Stoddard county, Missouri and the son of Collin Morgan, now dead.
Mr. Morgan located at Hayti 30 years ago and shortly thereafter became manager at that place of the Roberts Gin Company, which position he held for many years. He dealt extensively in real estate, was an officer and stockholder of the Bank of Hayti, and otherwise has been a busy business man. At the time of his death he was owner of several bodies of farm land, as well as a considerable section of city property in Hayti.
He possessed many noble traits of character. He was courageous and outspoken of his opinions on wothwhile matters, loyal to friends, devoted to his family, honorable in his dealings and truthful in his utterances. These qualities attracted to him a host of loyal friends, not only in Pemiscot county but throughtout Southeast Missouri, who extend sympathy to the bereaved family and join in mourning his passing.
He is survived by the widow (nee Ruth Keyser), a son, Mack Morgan of Hayti; a daughter, Mrs. Byron McKay of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Chas. J. Morgan of Hayti; five sisters, Mrs. Zoa Schleischer and Mrs. Nell Roland of Memphis, Mts. May Mackay of Havana, Cuba, Mrs. Ida Jackson of Van Buren, Ark., and Mrs. Angie Wallace of Stockton, Calif.
