BACKES RITES TO BE AT RICHMOND
Nicholas Backes, for many years a prominent resident of Richmond, died at 7:40 o'clock this Wednesday morning at the hospital at Melrose. Mr. Backes was well-known throughout this section of the country, having been engaged in business in Richmond for a period of 25 years; a member of the firm of Haffley & Backes for 15 years and later for 10 years was associated with the Richmond Garage. He left Richmond five yers ago and since then has been located at Greenwald where he was engaged in the liquor business.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. John Backes, pioneer residents of this community, he was born at Cold Spring, October 2, 1885. When he was two years old his parents moved to Richmond. He was united in marriage to Margaret Nierenhausen at Richmond, May 17, 1910. She survives with one son, Cyril, aged 28 years. Surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. George Sieverding, St. Cloud; Mrs. Sam DaLean, Mrs. Al Ahmann, Mrs. John Eddelston and Alfred Backes, Minneapolis; Mrs. Joseph Haffley, Richmond; and Anton and Mike Backes, Langdon, North Dakota.
Deceased was a member of the Catholic Order of Fresters and of the St. Joseph Society. Funeral arrangements have been completed and the services are to be held from the SS. Peter & Paul Church at Richmond Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Internment will be made in the family lot in the parish cemetery at Richmond.
