[The Toccoa Record, May 26th 1910] - Mr. B. P. Brown Sr., one of the most highly respected citizens of Stephens County, died of heart failure on last Thursday at the old family home near Ayersville. While his death was not unlooked for by those who knew his condition, yet the announcement of his demise was a shock to the entire community. He had been seriously ill for several weeks.
Mr. Brown was a man of quiet, unassuming, retiring disposition, but at the same time was a man of very strong, sturdy character, never compromising with evil. His grandfather came to Georgia from South Carolina many years ago. The deceased was born in 1836, in the month of February, and hence was 74 years of age at the time of his death. Though he appeared to be much younger. With his family he moved from Banks County into what is now Stephens about 1870, and for many years lived where he died.
For forty years Mr. Brown has been a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and into this, as in all other things with which he connected himself, he put the strength of his personality and character.
Mr. Brown went early in the 60's into the Confederate army and made a brave, constant soldier, but he has never asked and has never drawn a pension.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Elizabeth Hulsey, of Habersham County, and 8 children, as follows: Mrs. Nancy Terrell, Mrs. Mary King, B.P. Brown Jr., (Ordinary of Stephens County), W.P. Brown, Mrs. Sarah Loudermilk, Hugh, Joe, Mrs. Emma Farmer.
The remains were buried Saturday morning at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
