Czechosolvakian Nazi Leader. After serving in the Austro-Hungarian army towards the end of World War I, he became involved in the Sudeten German National Socialist Party (1919) and gradually rose to party leadership. He was named deputy Gauleiter of the Sudetenland after it became part of Germany in 1938, and also became an official in the German SS. In 1939 Frank was appointed to a position where he would wield the most power over what remained of Czechosolvakia after German takeover. Following the assassination of Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich in 1942, Frank, along with Heydrich's successor Kurt Daluege, was instrumental in the destruction of the Czech villages of Lidice and Lezaky for revenge. He would retain his power over Czechosolvakia throughout the war. As Allied troops were nearing Prague in 1945 and the local people were welcoming them, Frank ordered the streets to be cleared and instructed the German army and police forces in Prague to fire at anyone who disobeyed. He surrendered to the United States Army on May 9, 1945. Tried and convicted of war crimes in early 1946, Frank was sentenced to death and hanged. (bio by: Mr. Badger Hawkeye)
