Thomas Archie Turnipseede was born in Falls County, Texas, to the late Jasper David and Roberta Beard Turnipseed. On Aug. 18, 1945, Thomas married Dorothy Jane Daniel. They married shortly after his serving in the U.S. Army in World War II as a truck driver hauling military supplies, equipment, and personnel for the 20th Armored Division. He entered into the U.S. Army in December of 1942 and served in France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium, and England. Thomas Archie Turnipseede was awarded GC Ribbon, ETO Ribbon, ATOR President Citation and the Battle Star.
Thomas, also known as "Tommy" or "TA", started his own commercial refrigeration business in Waco as Turnipseede Refrigeration Co., Inc. Thomas's professional career consisted of sales and service of new and refurbished equipment. He retired after 58 years. Thomas became a Mason in 1946 and was a member of Lee Lockwood in Waco. He also loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, farming and ranching.
Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Larry Turnipseede; and brothers, Jasper David Jr., James Edwin, Aubrey Lee, William Omer, Harvey Leslie, and John Melvin.
Some members of the Turnipseede family spell their last name without the "e" at the end. Thomas stated he used the "e" at the end to keep the name from growing.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jane Turnipseede; daughter, Donna Gayden and husband, Troy; son, James David Turnipseede; grandsons, Tommy Barnett and wife, Delinda, and Kyle Gayden; granddaughter, Casey Gayden; great-grandchildren, Brittaney and Gregory Beltran; brother, Loyd Melvin Turnipseede and wife, Mable; sister, Artie Dehart and husband, Elmer; and many nieces and nephews.
