Henry Lysander Stevenson was the fourth of ten known child of Judge James Hall Stevenson (1803-1886) and Emily Clement Janes (1817-1899), who married Christmas Day (25 Dec) 1833 at Hot Springs, Hot Springs County, Arkansas.

Henry married Rebecca Jane Chatham (1858-1945) on 13 Mar 1878 at Coryell County, Texas. Henry and Rebecca had no known children.

Henry enlisted on 31 Oct 1862 in Co. F, 30th Regiment, Texas Calvary under Colonel E.J. Gurley, of Waco. He served in the Trans Mississippi Department. He was in many skirmishes, but participated in no general engagements. He was disbanded at Hempstead, Texas. After the war Henry returned to Coryell County with nothing but his mule. In 1868 he drove cattle to Kansas. In 1869 he began farming and settled at Straw's Mill, Coryell County, Texas. He was the color bearer at the eighth annual Confederate Reunion in 1908. Rebecca was the younger sister of Clement Reese Chatham, who married Henry's younger sister, Emily Jane Stevenson.
