Tradition is Buried in Field Where John Mathias(B;1804) is buried. They were going to name Field Old Mathias Cemetery,But A Man who did Hardy County Census Already Picked the name John Mathias Cemetery. There usest to be field stones also

My Great Aunt Pauline Mathias Biller Said Her Mother Sarah Boswell Strawderman Mathias Told Her that Susanna Fitzwater Mathias Told Her Mother in Law Lydia Delawder Mathias That the Mathias's had Been Here since about the Time of the May Flower Another Family researcher said they were from France and if that's the case
The only possibility I can find is:
Father: Johann Jacob MATHEWS b: 23 OCT 1704 in Schweighausen, Bas-Rhin, Alsace
Mother: Anna Margaretha JUNG b: 24 AUG 1709 in Gundershoffen, Bas-Rhin, Alsace

On rootsweb others have found they have one son not accounted for!Is it our Johannes"John" Mathias?

Tradition indicated that the Mathias family descended from the royal Hapsburg line of Hungary and lived in Alsace-Lorraine. When Germany took over The Palatine, the Mathias family was stripped of land holdings and privileges and required to serve in the military. To escape such a tyranny, three Mathias brothers (Johanne, Gottfriedt and Philip) emigrated to Philadelphia and settled in Berks and Bucks Counties PA.. Johanne (John Sr) Then Frederick Co MD, then across the Potomac River and down into the Shenandoah Valley where he is shown in the 1790 census of Shenandoah Co. In 1791 John Mathias Sr, acquired property in the Lost River area of Hardy Co, VA, just over the North Mountains that separate the county from Shanandoah and Rockingham Counties, and 20 miles NW of Fulks Run.
