Thomas Schutt was born in Onondaga County, N.Y. March 21, 1817. He came to Indiana in 1845, settled in what was then a wilderness, cutting the first tree on the land upon which he made his home and spent his life. He died Aug. 22. On Dec. 28, 1847 he married Hannah Gifford, who died July 24, 1864, leaving 4 children, who are still living, Dr. L. C. of Toledo, Walter E. of Cleveland, Dr. M. A. of Michigan City, and Mrs. Lillie E. West of Seattle, Wash. His second marriage was Sept. 6, 1866 to Jennie Inman, who survives, also 7 children, 3 of whom are married. The younger boys are living at the old home with their mother
