Mary Elisa (Nardulli) Monaco, 90, of Amherst, Ohio, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, and Vandergrift, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, following a short illness. Mary was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Vandergrift, to Charles Nardulli and Apolonia Morea Nardulli, both of whom were immigrants from the southern province of Apulia in Italy. She married the late Frank P. Monaco, of Lorain, and moved to Ohio in 1939, residing on Washington Avenue before moving to Amherst Manor in 1999, where she lived until her death in the nursing facility on Dec. 5. Mary was a talented homemaker, and her interests included fashion, travel, cooking, baking and reading, especially biographies and books about philosophy and spirituality. She was a member of St. Peter's and later St. Joseph's Catholic Churches in Lorain County. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, 1982; and brothers, Lawrence and Joseph Nardulli; cousins, Mary, John, Martin and Frank Palmisano; and niece, Barbara Nardulli. She is survived by her brother, James Nardulli, of Vandergrift; cousins, James Palmisano, also of Vandergrift, Antonette Julian, of Saltsburg, and Christine Julian, of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren throughout the country. Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio. Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Jamie Mazanec, associate pastor. Those attending are invited to share in a luncheon immediately following the Mass in the St. Joseph social hall. A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. The Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, Lorain, is entrusted with the arrangements.
