DEATH OF LOUIS DELLAGE
Pioneer Passed Away at Home After Illness of Two Years
Duration; Born in Canada
Louis Dellage, a well known pioneer of Mitchell county, died at his home Thursday after an illness that nearly two years ago gave evidence of its fatal nature. The facts of his life are set forth in the following:
Louis Dellage was born at St. Isaac, Canada, on January 17, 1846. His youth was passed in Canada and in Connecticut, where he worked as a carpenter until the age of 18 years he enlisted in Company F 11th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. He made an excellent record as a soldier and left the service only when compelled to do so by a gunshot wound in the hip and back.
After leaving the service he returned to Connecticut and on January 14, 1866, married Ellen McHugh. In 1869 they came west settling in Mitchell county, Iowa. Four children were born to them before Mrs. Dellage died early in 1879. On November 9, 1879, he married Mary Morrissey at New Haven, who , with six of the children born to them still survive.
Since 1869 he has lived continuously in Mitchell county, devoting most of his time to farming with occasional attention to carpenter work. For the last ten years he lived on his small but comfortable farm adjoining the city of Osage. He had recently purchased a new home on South Seventh street in Osage, where he passed away November 25, 1915, after a sickness which had been gaining gradually on him for over a year.
He was always a sober, industrious, upright citizen; a kind and thoughtful husband and father; and a faithful and devoted follower of the Catholic faith.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his church and his friends.
His widow and the following children remain to mourn his loss. Mrs. Emma Sherman, Henry Dellage, Mrs. Gertie Gray, James Dellage; Lee Dellage, Frank Dellage, Mrs. Jessie Brown, John Dellage and Mrs. Julia Bullin.
