Mrs. Ruby Velma Moore Geissler, a registered nurse for 44 years, died February 7, 1985, at the Presbyterian Manor (500 Cayce Street, Farmington, Missouri 63640) following a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 80.
Born May 7, 1904, in Fredericktown, Missouri, to James William "JW" Moore (1868-1954) and Phebe McNew Moore (1881-1927), she moved to Farmington as a young child and was graduated from the North Ward Elementary School and the Farmington High School. Following high school, she moved to St. Louis to study nursing and received her diploma in 1925 from the City Hospital St. Louis University School of Nursing. On July 15, 1944, she married John Herman Geissler at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in St. Louis. The couple moved to Bensenville, Illinois, in 1945. They were divorced on March 16, 1958. He died at age 84 in Monterey Park, California, on April 28, 1975, and was interred in block X lot 13 grave 3 in the San Gabriel Cemetery, 601 West Roses Road, San Gabriel, California.
For twenty years after graduation Mrs. Geissler worked as a private duty registered nurse in the St. Louis and Chicago areas. In 1957 she joined the nursing staff of Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children on North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, and transferred to Shriners Hospital on Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1960 where she served as the night nursing supervisor until her retirement in 1969. Mrs. Geissler was a member of the Mont Clare Chapter No. 845 Order of Eastern Star in Chicago, and the Farmington First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother Harold McNew "Huck" Moore (1981), a former Farmington city councilman, and her sister Ruth Burnell Moore Coffman (1945). Mrs. Geissler is survived by one son, Richard Harold Geissler of Chantilly, Virginia; one sister, Mrs. Marie Moore McNeilly of Farmington; two brothers, Arthur William (Ash) Moore of Farmington, and Glendon (Johnny) Moore of Nevada, and three grandchildren, Marc, S----- and J---- Geissler of Chantilly.
Friends may call at 7 p.m. today (Friday, February 8) at the Cozean Funeral Home. Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (February 9). Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday (February 10) at the Cozean Chapel with the Reverend William McGill officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Parkview Cemetery, Weber Road, Farmington.
