Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. The last General appointed to the Confederate side, he was a 1849 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, After the start of the Civil War , he raised "Brevard's Partisan Rangers" in 1861, and attained the rank of Major in 1863.
