Tombstone says 1785. The Bible gives 15 May 1788.
Also spelled Hannah Malinda Price.
Wife of William Findley from Edgefield County, South Carolina.
"Daughter of William Price," according to a transcript of the Bible of her daughter Malinda Findley Cox. Two Bibles, one belonging to Malinda Cox and one to her husband George Cox, were last known to be in the possession of the late Etta Cox Lewis. (Presently trying to locate the originals.)

Hannah Melinda Price Findley was the mother of:
Peter Dempsey FINDLEY b: 30 Mar 1807 in Edgefield, SC
John FINDLEY b: 31 Jul 1808 in Edgefield, SC
Martha FINDLEY b: 8 Jun 1810 in Edgefield, SC
Moses FINDLEY b: 11 Mar 1812 in Edgefield, SC
Malinda FINDLEY b: 29 Mar 1816 Edgefield, SC
Minerva FINDLEY b: 16 May 1818 in Edgefield, SC
Lucy FINDLEY b: 6 Oct 1821 in Hall Co., GA
Williamson FINDLEY b: 25 Jan 1825 in Hall Co., GA

The birthdate, May 15, 1788 (1789?) comes from the family bible, while her tombstone gives the year as 1785. The 1850 Lumpkin Co, GA. census lists Hannah Finl(e)y as 62 (b c1788), the same age as her husband. The 1860 Marshall Co, AL. census lists Hannah Finley as 71 or 77 (c1783/c1789), once again hard to read. The index says 77 but has her husband as 71, so likely they were once again listed as the same age, 71, meaning born circa 1789.

Some researchers have said she had one brother, Charles Hudson Price, in Edgefield Co., S.C., and show their father William Price (Jr.) as marrying Elizabeth Littlepage Hudson in Virginia, October 10, 1787. Elizabeth and her brother Charles Hudson were children of Christopher Hudson and Elizabeth Chamberlayne Hudson. There is much information on the internet regarding the Price lineage that is unproven or inadequately documented, and much of what is proven through documention is interpreted incorrectly.

In the 1970s, a descendant, Mrs. Ethlyn Rainey, stated that she found a record in Edgefield Co., SC, referencing to William Price, deceased, in or about 1785, leaving two children, a daughter Hannah and a son, both under age; perhaps other children older, but at least two under age.
Many family trees on the internet show William Price, son of Daniel and Mary Williamson Price, as dying in Edgefield in 1784. This Daniel Price was the son of John Price and Hannah Williamson.

Daniel Price was a great-great-grandson of John Price, who came to Jamestown, Virginia in August 1611 aboard the "STAR" (First Families of Virginia). The relationships of Daniel Price’s descendants are confusing because in 1801, his grandsons William “Sr.” (son of Daniel Jr.) and William Jr. (son of William), first cousins, both administered his estate. Some researchers interpret this to be Daniel's son (William) and grandson (William Jr.) as administrators rather than two grandsons. To further complicate the relationships, William “Sr.” had a son Joseph “Sr.” and William Jr. apparently had a son Joseph B. Price “Jr.”

William Price is supposed to have had a sister Hannah Price who married John Colvin of Edgefield. Hannah Colvin's great-grandson Samuel Grover Colvin married his third cousin Jane Dowdy Isbell's granddaughter, Leona Almeda Isbell. Jane was a granddaughter of Hannah Melinda Price Findley.

This may or may not have been the same William Price who had a plat on Sandy Run of Broad River in Craven Co., S.C. dated Apr. 18, 1760, adjoining Zachariah Isbell, great-great-grandfather of Elijah Miller Isbell who married Jane Dowdy, granddaughter of Hannah Melinda Price Findley.

Recent Family Finder DNA results indicate that descendants of Joseph B. Price "Jr." of Edgefield and Hannah Melinda Price Findley are related.
In 1839 Joseph B. Price (son of John, son of Daniel) sold the land he inherited from his father to his brother John W. Price; brothers of Handsford (Hansford) and Wilson Price.

The Dowdys and Findleys are buried at Shoal Creek Cemetery at Asbury, the site of the former Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
Since the creation of these memorials, it has been found that other memorials have been created by others who showed them with variant or incorrect spellings, and "burial place unknown" and/or later put them in the wrong cemetery and some were only later moved to the correct cemetery. The wrong cemetery is Shoal Creek Cemetery at Arab, more than 30 miles from the actual site. To compound matters, other cousins have gone to the actual cemetery at Asbury (on private property, though access is allowed bi-annually by the owners) and taken photos of several of the markers and then uploaded these markers to the memorials placed in the wrong cemetery, the Shoal Creek Cemetery at Arab, when that is not at all where those photos were taken.
