Police Sure Mans Death Homicide
Police say the death of a 66-year old man found when a fire was extinguished at his home Tuesday morning is the second confirmed homicide of 1988.
The charred body of Odice Lee McClenny was removed from the home at 508 N. Ross after firemen put out the blaze which originated in the bedroom where McClenny was found in a chair.
Cause of death was not determined pending an autopsy to be performed in Dallas.
Hours after the fire was put out McClenny's car was found about three blocks away. Investigators are searching the car for evidence.
Tyler Fire Department Investigator Doug Corey said today the fire is being investigated as suspicious but has not officially been ruled arson.
I talked with Tim (Willingham, who is investigating the blaze) this morning and he said he is still not comfortable with that. He is still looking into it.
Fire was confined to the bedroom of the wood frame home, officials said.
Gary Middleton, police public information officers, said there were no signs of forced entry to the home and nothing other than the car has been determined to be missing.
Not at this time, but of course he didn't have any close family so its kind of hard to tell what he had, Middleton said today.
