Death: Jul. 5, 1993

The Gaillard Genealogy (1974) by Dorothy Kelly MacDowell p. 157 lists her (apparently incorrectly) as Martha Henshaw Pillans.

Her grandmother Elizabeth Henshaw "Daisy" (Torrey) Pillans wrote her name as Martha Torrey Pillans.
Who's Who in the South (1927) p.583 says Martha Torrey Pillans.
She is Martha T. Pillans on the 1930 census.
She inherited her mother's family home at 1407 Government Street where she lived many years.

Notable Men of Alabama (1904), vol. 1, by Joel C. Dubose, p. 126: Mrs. Pillans "enjoyed a distinguished lineage, being descended from the Henshaws of Massachusetts and Isbells of Virginia."

History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography, vol. 4 by Thomas M. and Marie Bankhead Owen, p. 1365: "Mrs. Pillans is a descendant of the Henshaws of Massachusetts and of the Isbells of Virginia, her New England ancestry running back to John Alden and his wife Priscilla."

Mobile Register, Tuesday, June 15, 1937: "Mrs. Clarkson M. Hamilton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Pillans, whose marriage was a prominent event of Saturday, June 12, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at Spring Hill. Mrs. Hamilton will be remembered as Martha Pillans."

Mobile Register, July 6, 1993: Martha Pillans Hamilton, daughter of late Palmer Pillans.
"Martha Pillans Hamilton, who owned and operated the Colonial Mobile Antique Shop for more than 30 years, died Monday morning following a short illness. Mrs. Hamilton, 81, was the widow of Clarkson M. Hamilton and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She was the daughter of the late Palmer Pillans, a former president of the Mobile Bar Asssocation, Mobilian of the Year and a local attorney for more than 75 years, including 65 years as counsel for the Mobile County school board. She is survived by her son, Mobile attorney Palmer C. Hamilton, and a granddaughter. Graveside services will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Radney Funeral Home handling arrangements. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Mobile Historic Development Foundation."
