ROY RONALD "SNORT" DRAKE, 49, Fair Play, the son of Charles & Dorothy Drake, was born Feb. 5, 1945, near Fair Play. He passed away at 4:53 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1994, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, following an apparent heart attack. He was a lifelong resident of the Fair Play community. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1962 & from SMSU in Springfield. He was employed with 21st Century Genetics for 23 years. He loved the time he could spend on the farm with his family & his cattle. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, from 1967 to 1971. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for a period of time. He was married to Mary Jeanne Ankrom on Feb. 13, 1981. To this union two daughters were born: Delissa Janelle and Mary Dawn. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Drake of the home; two daughters, Delissa Drake, 11, and Mary Dawn Drake, 9, both of the home; a son, Nathan Drake, serving with the U.S. Navy stationed at Navy Sub School at New London, Conn.; two-step-children, Bryan & Bethany Griffin of Fair Play; his mother, Dorothy Drake of Fair Play; and one brother, Bobby Drake of Stockton. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Drake. Also surviving are aunts, cousins,nephews, & nieces and a host of other relatives & friends. He was a loving & caring husband, father, son, and brother. He will be sadly missed by his family, coworkers, and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in Pitts Funeral Home chapel, Bolivar, with the Rev. Mike Foster and the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. He was laid to rest in Shady Grove Cemetery, southwest of Bolivar, with military graveside rites conducted by Galmey VFW Post of Hermitage. Music was provided by Bethany Griffin, Barbara George, & Ron George Jr. Pallbearers were Rex Williams,Brent Drake, Kurt Watson, Greg Short, Brad Drake, James Mayes,Lance Davidson, and Hunter Smith. Honorary pallbearers were David Day, Marty Orrell, Billy Taylor, Richard Keith & Joe Blakey. A memorial scholarship fund for Delissa & Mary Dawn Drake has been set up at both Southwest Bank of Bolivar and Fair Play and Sac River Valley Bank in Stockton.
