He was born November 11, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Orville and Evelyn Swindle. Lewis served in the Marines in Vietnam and retired from the Air Force at N.O.R.A.D.
Lewis was the author of several books, "The Story and Trials of Adolph Julius Weber", "The Fraser River", and "Southern and Northern mines of California". He had many articles published in the Lapidary Journal all stemming from his thrill of rockhounding.
Lewis is survived by his wife Virginia; children Lewis Jr., Tobi, Timothy, Sherrylyn, and Sabrina; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brothers Chester and Robert; and his sister Nelda.
