Birth: Aug. 5, 1926
Death: Mar. 29, 1993

Mar 1993: Buel F. "Blackie" Black was born in Lancaster; he was the son of the late Buel C. and Anna L. Gilbert Black. He was the husband of Mary E. Hess Black. They celebrated their 46th anniversary on Sept. 22. A lifelong resident of Lancaster, he was a postal worker at both the Chestnut Street and Harrisburg Pike post offices, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1987. He was also a former officer for the American Postal Workers Union, Lancaster branch. An avid gardener and fisherman, he was a member of Lodge No. 43 Free & Accepted Masons of Lancaster, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, and Millersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7294. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served in the South Pacific with the 6th Fleet. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah A (Paul A Jr) Conlin; a son, Keith D. Black; five grandchildren; and three brothers, James Gilbert, Ronald and Barry Kernstein.
