Born at Etting Green, Norfolk, East Dereham, England 11 Nov., 1853 to Elizabeth Ward. Came to the United States 3 July, 1871 aboard the USS Wyoming. Arrived at Ogden, Utah 12 July, 1871. Married Rose Ellen Hatch 18 Dec., 1879 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had a son Daniel, and a daughter named Rose Ella. His first wife Rose Ellen died 20 March, 1885 from tuberculosis.

Arrived at Ogden, Utah July 12. Stayed in Ogden one month. Started for Skull Valley, Utah and stayed there most of the time for twelve years.
