Alan Arthur Kettner Born in Springfield Minnesota on Aug 22, 1943. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1961 and went on to the military joining the United States Marine Corps. All was a Second Lieutenant at the time of his death. His unit was B CO, 1st Bn, 27th Marines, 0301: Basic Infantry Officer. His tour of duty started February 16, 1968 and he was killed in action by Hostiles on April 13, 1968. He died in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. Alan was the son of Mrms. Arthur Kettner. Alan was only five years old when his father died. Alan was 24 at the time of his death.
Surviving besides his mother are two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Marlys) Berberieh of Comfrey and Mrs Peter (Mavis) Pint of Sanborn.
Military officers arrived in Springfield Ap 23 with word of Alan's death. They told Rev Max von Fischer first and the Rev and Officers then told relatives, per the request of Alan.
Services were at St. Paul Lutheran and presided over by Rev Max von Fischer, with Full military rites by John Watson Post American Legion with Elroy Henning Commander of John Watson, Milo Wood, James Schmid, First Lieutenant Wallace O, Henderson, USMC, Willis Weber and Norman Gatzlaff, A.O. Ames, sixth member of the group in charge of the flag.
