| Birth: | 1825 | | Death: | Mar. 8, 1898 |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. After Georgia seceded from the Union he was appointed Colonel in command the 35th Georgia Infantry in October 1861. He led the 35th Georgia in campaigns through Kentucky, Virginia and was the last senior Division Commander in the field after the Battle of Gettsburg in July 1863. In 1864, he was promoted Brigadier General in command of two North Carolina brigades and remained a brigade commander until the surrender at Appomattox. After the war, he was farmer and President Grover Cleveland appointed him as a Special Agent of the Land Bureau in Kansas, in 1885. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
