James Ivan Bradley, 95, formerly of Brownington, Mo died Friday evening March 21, 2008 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Warrensburg, Mo. Graveside services for Mr. Bradley will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the Brownington Cemetery. Mr. Bradley's grandson, Ivan Joe Bradley, Jr. will officiate. Memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Veteran's Home, American Cancer Society or any Hospice Organization of the donor's choosing. Ivan Bradley was born on July 8, 1912 in Brownington, Mo to James Franklin and Isadora (McMillian) Bradley. His younger days were spent working at Peabody Coal Co. and Dickey Clay Co. He married Lucy Marietta Reese, also of Brownington, in July of 1930. Mrs. Bradley preceded James in death in 1972. He was inducted into the United States Navy during World War II where he served on a hospital ship. Upon returning from the war Mr. Bradley purchased and operated a Mobil Service Station and Tavern in Brownington. During the day he was a mechanic and by night he served drinks and visited with friends. He later purchased and operated Sander's Grocery, the last "large" grocery store in Brownington before the Corp of Engineers purchased all of Brownington.
He married long time friend, Genevia Sampson Cline in 1974 and lived in Warsaw until her death in l977. He returned to Brownington and lived alone until entering the Missouri Veteran's Home.
He is survived by two daughters, Julia (Judy) Von and husband Robert N. Gentry of Independence, Mo, Joyce (Sue) and husband John B. Lesmeister of Calhoun, Mo. and one son, Ivan Joe and wife Sandra (Sue) Criss Bradley of Deepwater, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his two wives, one infant daughter, a son, Robert Dean Bradley and one step-granddaughter.
