Jack A. Boes Sr. age 84, passed away on Monday November 30, 2009 at Tipton Hospital.

He was born in Tipton on March 3, 1923 to Cecil R. and Elpha P. (Plake) Boes.

Jack had attended Tipton High School but left early to join the Army and fight in WWII, he went back years later and graduated with the class of 1974.

He married Dorothy Bevel on May 11, 1946 and she passed away on February 3, 1994. Jack went on to marry Joann Lynas on July 22, 1994 and she survives.

He was a member of the Ash Street Wesleyan Church, American Legion Post 46, Purple Heart Association, Masonic Lodge, and the Apostolic Christian Church all of Tipton. Jack had retired from the Tipton Fire Dept. in 1968 after 21 years of service and retired from the Indiana National Guard in 1985, as a Sergeant First Class, after serving for over 35 years of combined military service. A veteran of WWII Jack had served from 1942 to 1944 in the Pacific Theater including Guam and Luzon.

Survivors include his wife Joann Boes of Tipton, children; Jack Jr. and wife Abida Boes of Orleans ON, Canada, Kathy (Needler) Bufton of Tucson, AZ, Suzy Boes of Tipton, and Jennifer Boes of Tipton. Stepchildren include Dana Randle of Forest, Linda Green of Tippecanoe, and Lynn Butcher Jr. of Indianapolis. Surviving grandchildren are Anthony J. Boes of Colorado, Ryan (Jennifer) Needler of North Carolina, Meghan (Steve) Needler of North Dakota, Melynda Boes, Kenton Boes, and Gabriel Boes all of Tipton along with 11 great grand, 3 great-great grand, and 8 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, a grand daughter Kelly (Boes) Sherwood, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Calling will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be on Friday December 4 at 10 AM with Revs. John Harden and Pete McGuire officiating.

Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.

Sergeant First Class (Retired) Jack A. Boes Sr., age 84, passed away on November 30, 2009.

SFC Boes quit high school in Tipton, Indiana to enlist in the United States Army.

He served with the 38th Division in the Pacific, seeing action on Guam and Luzon. He enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard and retired from Company B, 138th Signal Battalion in 1985.

Boes was one of the few individuals who was authorized to wear the famous "CY" patch on both shoulders and was the last of the 38th Division WW II veterans to retire.

Sergeant First Class Boes was also a National Guard Technician.
