Author. He wrote "The Prophet". On April 10th 1931, Kahlil Gibran died at the age of forty-eight in a New York hospital, as the spreading cancer in his liver left him unconscious. In fulfillment of his dream, Gibran was buried in his hometown of Bsharri, Lebanon. The Lebanese Minister of Arts opened the coffins and honored his body with a decoration of Fine Arts. Meanwhile, Marianna and Mary started negotiating the purchase of the Carmelite monastery Gibran wished to obtain. By January of 1932, the Mar Sarkis monastery was bought and Gibran moved to his final resting-place. The monastery is frightful, not beautiful; it was Gibran's playground in his childhood, of which he took the night's ghosts and the day's procession. You take refuge in the cloister, which is a cave deep-set in the mountain's bosom, and you are met by Gibran's casket lying in a cavern which is like the curve of a Maronite church, eastern not western, decorated with the racks of the Qadisha grotto rocks, discovered by the priest Tanios Jaa'jaa; the casket's stair is furnished with old olive wood, as if taken from the orchard where prayed Jesus, Gibran's beloved .
