Leonard Lewis Melton, son of Arthur W. And Mary R. Melton, was born June 14, 1903, and passed away October 29, 1986, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

Leonard was born in Osborne County and lived there as a boy. In 1916, he moved to Ottawa County, and then in 1918, he moved to Topeka. On May 21, 1927, he married Lola Marie Taliaferro. To this union was born one daughter, Gloria Ann. They lived in Topeka until they moved to a farm near Minneapolis in 1930. They moved to another farm near Miltonvale in 1936 and it was this farm that Leonard continued to work and love each day until the time of his death. After 36 years of marriage, Lola died in 1964. Both were members of the Christian Church.

Leonard married Mabel Hazlett, Lola's sister, on January 11th, 1967; she survives. They enjoyed almost 20 years together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary and by one sister, Tressa Messick.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel, two brothers: Archie C. Melton of Abilene, Kansas and Victor M. Melton of Bend, Oregon; one sister, Blanche Chamberlain of Olpe, Kansas; one daughter, Gloria Ann Halepeska and her husband, James; two grandchildren, Brent Halepeska and his wife, Debby and Robin Marsh and her husband, Lowell; four great-grandchildren, Nathan and Megan Halepeska and Kelby and Kara Marsh; three nieces who were also his step-daughters, Dixie Rose, Joan Stanton, and Pat Davenport; as well as several other nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral services were held in the Christian Church Saturday, November 1, 1986, at 2:00 p.m. With the Rev. Larry Sullivan and Chris Cassel officiating. Organist was Mrs. Lois Denison and soloist was Mrs. Clara Jane Shannon. "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" were the song selections. Casket bearers were Martin Begnoche, Max Begnoche, Edwin Benfer, Steve Grah.
