Philip Louis Adams, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Canon Hospice in Metairie, LA. He was born April 27, 1918 and was 90 years old. Louis was preceded in death by his parents Philip L. Adams, Sr. and Georgia Richardson Adams, his sister, Marie Adams, his wife of 55 years, Stella Barnes Adams and his elder son, Terence Michael Adams. He is survived by his younger son, Philip Reed Adams, Sr., and his wife, Jeannine Lapeyre Adams, and his daughter-in-law, Jennie Hartwick Adams of Bellingham, WA., his grand-children, Philip Reed Adams, Jr. and wife, Desiree Weilbaecher Adams, and Jeanne Adams Lambert, husband, Bryan Joseph Lambert, Sr., and Molly Barnes Adams of Bellingham, WA. Louis is, also, survived by his great grand-children, Cal Reed Adams, Emily Marie Adams, Bryan Joseph Lambert, Jr., Brooke Marcelline Lambert and Dylan Adams, by close family friend, Cindy Gomez and several nieces and nephews.
Louis was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area and attended New Orleans Academy and Tulane University. He was a disabled Veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in the South Pacific. For 35 years he was the Director of Personnel at the Veterans Administration Hospital from which he retired. Louis served as the President of the Federal Employees Association, was Chairman of the New Orleans Federal Executive Board, was the Leader of the Cub Scouts Pack 22, served on the New Orleans Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, was the president of the New Orleans Tennis Association, Director of the Louisiana State Tennis Championships and was a founding member of the National Junior Sugar Bowl. For his contributions to the community, Louis was given a commendation and key to the city of New Orleans by then Mayor deLesseps S. "Chep" Morrison.
All who knew Louis Adams will remember him forever.
Burial was held at the family tomb in Metairie Cemetery.
