Abner CANTRELL was born 1 Mar 1793 in the 96th District of SC. As a youth he accompained his parents to NC and later to the eastern part of TN, where he grew to manhood. Abner is in the 1820 census of Lincoln Co TN. By 1830, he had married Mary MAXEY. Mary was born 12 Jan 1803 in TN and was the daughter of Walter and Sarah (ALLEN) MAXEY. They were recorded in Marion Co., AL in 1830. Abner was listed as 30-40 years of age. Abt. 1835, the family moved to Madison Co., AR, where they are recorded in 1840 and 1850. In the latter year, he was listed as age 55, born in SC and he had real estate valued at $1,200. In 1854, he sold the 140 acres of land he owned in Madison Co. to Moses Cantrell, a nephew, son of brother William.

According to a History of Arkansas, he moved the family first to Boone Co. (then
Carroll Co.) and located on a farm 3 miles from Leadhill and later they
moved to Sugar Loaf Twp., Marion Co, where they were recorded in 1860. His real estate was valued at $1,200 and his personal property at $1,000.

Mary died 28 Sep 1872 and was buried at Keesee Cemetery on Highway 14,
15 miles west of Yellville, Ark. Abner was not located on the 1870 nor the 1880 census reports. Abner died 18 Feb 1890 and was buried at the Keesee Cemetery.

Twelve children were born to this union and in 1894, one son Edward was living and one daughter, Caroline was deceased.
