Robert W. Loyd Dies Early Today At Hospital - Neck Was Broken At Nevada Wednesday, When He Fell From a Box Car
Robert William Loyd died at 2:25 o'clock this morning in the Carthage Hospital. Mr. Loyd's neck was broken when he fell out of a box car at Nevada Wednesday night. Thursday he was brought to the hospital in an Ulmer-Drake ambulance, arriving here late Thursday afternoon. There was but little hope for his recovery at any time since the accident, which caused him to be paralyzed from the shoulders down. An X-ray examination Thursday night showed one Vertebrae of the spinal column broken and another fractured.
Mr. Loyd was born August 8, 1873 at Reeds, and had lived most of his life in or near Carthage. He was nearly 52 years old. He was a worker in the Carthage quarries.
He belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose and was also a member of the First M.E. church here.
His home was at 319 South McGregor Street.
His wife, Mrs. Lula Loyd 427 South McGregor St. survives him.
He also is survived by two sons, Leroy Loyd, 427 South McGregor Street, and Robert Loren Loyd, 319 South McGregor Street and a grandson, Chester Loyd, 6 years old, son of Leroy Loyd.
Both sons are married.
