Eugene Robinson Bennett was this writer's 4th cousin. His paternal grandfather Fielding Dick Bennett was a brother to this writer's great grandmother Paulina (Bennett) Thurman.
Eugene was the son of Ezekiel Robinson Day Bennett (1869-1957) who was born in Adair County, Missouri, and died in Sangamon County, Illinois; and Amanda (Keller) Bennett (1868-1919) who was from Missouri.
Eugene had the following siblings:
Alice Amanda Bennett 1894 –
Charles E. Bennett 1896 –
Alta B. Bennett 1899 – 1989
Aleta A Bennett 1902 –
Alma M. Bennett 1905 –
In the 1910 census taken shortly after Eugene was born, the family was living in English Township of Lucas County, Iowa. Eugene was an infant and he had 4 older sisters. His brother Charles is not listed, so it is believed that he died young.
Sadly, Eugene's mother died when he was only 9 years old in 1919.
By 1920, when Eugene was 10, the family had moved to Dover, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
On October 23, 1942, Eugene enlisted in the Army during World War II at Peoria, Illinois. His address at that time was Sangamon County, Illinois. He served as a Tec. 5 in the Army.
In the 1950s Eugene and his father and step-mother visited this writer's family in Kirksville, Missouri. Eugene was unmarried at that time. It is believed that he never married. He died in 1977 in Springfield, Illinois and is buried at this national cemetery.
