Funeral Rites for T. M. Cornelius, 57, Held Here Friday Local Contractor Dies Oct. 24 at Home in Beeville
Funeral services for Tom Meredith Cornelius, 57, Beeville contractor, were held Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, at 3 o'clock at the chapel of Walker Funeral Home, Rev. S. B. Beall and Rev. S. N. Allen officiating. Burial was made in Glenwood cemetery.
The active pallbearers were Pat Martin, Ellis Quinn, F. W. Brown, S. J. Hirst, Bob Trafton and Albert Hansen. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
Mr. Cornelius died at his home here Thursday morning, Oct. 24, at 10:20 o'clock. He had been ill for two months. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maudie Della Cornelius, who left Sunday for Vernon to make her home; five sons, Cecil E. Cornelius and V. H. Cornelius of Baytown, A. R. Cornelius of Goose Creek, and J. P. Cornelius and Wayne Cornelius of Beeville; three daughters, Mrs. Foy Lee Miller of Vernon and Misses Juanita and Marie Cornelius of Beeville; a sister, Mrs. Jane Murphy of Seymour, Texas, and two brothers, Bill Cornelius of Bandera county and Jesse Cornelius of Seymour.
Mr. Cornelius was a native of Waxahachie, having been born there April 23, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Meredith Cornelius. He met and married Miss Maudie Huggins in Comanche, Texas. During the early years of his life he owned a operated a freight line between Eden, San Angelo and Ballinger. He later became a contractor, moving to Beeville from Vernon 10 years ago. He had been in ill health for the past few years.
Mr. Cornelius was a member of the Baptist church, having joined in 1908 in Scurry county.
