Jessie Florence Orr was born 9 Sept 1921 and was the youngest of nine children of James Paul Orr & Jessie Cochran. Florence was an infant when her father died, and stayed with her mother rather than going to the Odd Fellows Home (Liberty, MO) with the other children. She was at the home one month, and her sister Lib took most of the care of her because children were separated from the others when they first arrived. However, after staff of the Odd Fellows home had to care for Florence, they called Jettie to say Florence was too young to stay. Jettie's sister Estella, a postmistress in Jasper County, Missouri, took Florence to work with her in a basket.

During WWII, Florence went to Washington with Jettie, and they initilly stayed with Jettie's sister Marguerite & husband Clarence Harlowe. She worked at Peoples Drug Store on Wisconsin Avenue, and was a clerk and a secretary for the Department of the Navy. Florence met her husband Otis, while he was serving in the Navy, and they were married in Tuckerton, New Jersey,on 15 April 1945, with Marguerite and Clarence as witnesses. They had one son, Paul Harland Goodwin.

Florence and Otis lived in Springfield for 8 years before moving to Shawnee, Kansas, where they lived for 22 years. They moved to Ottawa, Kansas in 1976, and for several years managed the Acres Estate mobile home park there.
