Charles E. Bowers, 84, of 961 Mt. Morris Road, Waynesburg, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.
He was born August 14, 1916, in Kirby, a son of Charles E. and Carrie John Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was Protestant.
He was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Morris High School, where he played baseball and football.
Mr. Bowers worked for Hillman Coke at Poland Mines, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Pennsylvania Department of Highways, from which he retired after 27 years of service. He was a school bus contractor for Waynesburg Central School District for 42 years and was dedicated to children and the community.
Mr. Bowers was a Democrat committeeman and a member of Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461. He enjoyed sports.
His wife, Edith Fox Bowers, died July 22, 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Marlene) Hunnell of Englewood, Ohio; a granddaughter, Charla Clapp; three great-grandchildren; and a niece.
Deceased are two sisters, Evelyn Eslinger and Addie Higgins; and a nephew.
