Lifelong Alaskan EVAN CARL CASEY died Dec. 19, 2001, at Alaska Native Medical Center from complications resulting from renal cell carcinoma. A family visitation was held Dec. 22 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A funeral was held Dec. 23 at Seward Methodist Church with the Rev. Duane Chase officiating. A reception followed at Peking Restaurant. Pallbearers included Elijah Powell, Kris Peck, Chris Clemens, Buddy Boren, Robby Blankenship and Jason Fetterly. Honorary pallbearers included Keenan Williams and Brad Watts. Burial was in the American Legion Cemetery in Seward.
Evan was born Aug. 3, 1984, in Seward. He was a senior attending high school in Seward and would have graduated in May of this year. Evan enjoyed fly-fishing, making movies, working on his computer, video games, skateboarding and being with family and friends. He had been a runner-up in the Elks Hoop Shoot in the state competition. His family writes: ''Evan touched many people with his spirit and strength for life and his 'can't hurt steel' attitude. Evan was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.'' Evan was preceded in death by his grandfathers, E.C. Casey and Glynn Templeton.
Survivors include his mother, Linda Templeton of Seward; dad, W.C. Casey of Seward; stepmother, Paula Cripe of Seward; sisters, Alissa Casey of Anchorage, and Brittany Casey and Leah Casey of Seward; half-sister, Shari Howard of Germany; grandmas, Edna Templeton of Anchorage and Betty Skinner of Seward; step-grandpa, E.G. Skinner of Seward; aunts and uncles, Elaine and Andy Collins and Diane and Kent MacLeod of Anchorage, Paula and Glenn White of Sigel, Pa., and Pam and Doug Hirsh of Lewiston, Idaho; uncle, Willy Templeton of Anchorage; stepsisters, Angela Watts of Seward and Seanne Popp of Anchorage; stepbrother, Keenan Williams of Seward; and numerous cousins. It was Evan's wish that memorial donations be sent to Ronald McDonald House Seattle, 5000 40th Ave., N.E., Seattle, WA 98105. Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapel downtown.
