Professional Football Player. For six seasons (1955 to 1960), he played at the left-defensive halfback and right-linebacker positions in the National, Canadian and American Football Leagues with the Philadelphia Eagles, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and New York Titans. He excelled at football and track at West Philadelphia High School and played collegiate football at the University of Pennsylvania. While with the Quakers, he served as team captain and achieved All-American honors. He was chosen by the Eagles during the 5th round of the 1953 NFL Draft. His most successful season was in 1956, when he recorded 4 interceptions for 61 yards and 1 touchdown while with Philadelphia. Bell recorded 11 career interceptions for 182 yards with 1 touchdown in 62 career NFL and AFL games. He was a member of the New York Titans' (later New York Jets) team during their debut season of 1960. Following his football career, he was employed with the Atlantic Richfield Company and later formed his own marketing business in Washington, D.C. He died from heart failure. (bio by: C.S.)
