Marguerite Blankenship, 90, Bloomfield, IA, died March 25, 2006, at the Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield, IA.

She was born February 1, 1916, in Memphis, MO., to Harley T. and Flossie B. Forrester Black.

On June 12, 1948, she married David Blankenship in Ottumwa, IA.

After graduating from the Rutledge, MO High School in 1934, she attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO, graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught three years in rural Scotland County, MO, five years in Memphis, MO, two years in Keokuk, IA, and 14 years in the Davis County Community Schools. In 1945, she joined the American Red Cross as a nurse and worked in the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, AR.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Davis County Hospital Auxiliary and the Davis County Welcome Center.

Surviving her are her husband; two sons, David Jr. of Preston, MO, and Danny Lee of Littleton, CO; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Zinnert of Hartsville, MO. and Jeanette Adams of Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leon F. Black.

Funeral services were held March 29, 2006, at the Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home in Bloomfield, IA, with the Rev. Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Friends of the Library.
