M. Ruth Himes, 90, formerly of Lafayette, died at 12:52 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, Ky., following a brief illness.
She was born May 5, 1919 in Rochester, N.Y. to the late Rev. John J. and Wilhelmina Hoedeman Hiemenga. On April 9, 1941, she married Ralph Himes in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Hermine Venema of Michigan.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Maslin (husband: George) and Patty-Mae Himes, both of Richmond, Ky.; a sister, Mae Westra (husband: Donald F.) of Illinois; 3 grandchildren, Ruthie Maslin, Bus Maslin (wife: Sabra) and Billy Maslin (wife: Stacey), all of Kentucky and 7 great-grandchildren.
