OBITUARY
John B. Gustin was born in Warren county, Ohio, December 25, 1824, died at his home near Peru, Indiana, April 22, 1887; aged 62 years, 3 months and 27 days. He was married to Elizabeth Dearth in the year 1848. Ten children have blessed their union, five of these have died.
In the early part of Mr. Gustin's life he was a member for a time of the Christian Church, but having removed to Miami county in the year 1853 he joined the M. E. Church. For some months his health has been precarious but not so as to keep him from the ordinary pursuits of life. Some two weeks before his death he was taken quite sick and soon reached life's terminus.
Much that is good and noble and Christ-like can be said for Mr. Gustin, and nothing which is derogatory. He was a reliable and active member of the church. His life was the constant blending and harmonious working of "faith and works". He had secured a large place in the affections of his neighbors and will be greatly missed in all that pertains to the welfare of his community. The best evidence of the nature of one's death is to be found in his life. If Mr. Gustin had left no word of dying testimony as to his hopes, yet all would have been assured that such had been the exalted character of his life, that he would have died well, but in addition to this he gave repeated assurances during his last hours that all was light, and that his soul was at rest in Christ so that his family and friends are much rejoiced that they have the clear and hopeful assurances of Mr. Gustin's last hours on earth. Funeral services Sunday p.m. by Rev. A. S. Wooten of M. E. Church of this city.
