Joe was my mother, Mattie Oma Walters Coe half-brother. He farmed around Maypearl, Ellis, Texas, according to the 1920 Ellis County Census, in Precinct 5. My mother said he was noted to have had a "Self-taught Gambling Profession.", as well as being a farmer.)
He and his wife Savannah Walker divorced after he went to prison and I have no record of her.
*Joe was in Huntsville Prison by December 11, 1910. He was pardoned by 11-13-1913, for good behavior.

The shooting is alleged to have been done by Joe Walters, a young farmer, at Lee's home. Walters was arrested and placed in the county jail. One charge from a shotgun was fired into the body of Lee.
Walters has been crying almost ever after he was arrested and has made no statement regarding the affair, further than to claim that Lee was cu--ing his wife and he shot him. Lee was a widower and Walton and his wife were keeping house for him.
Joe died in the Dallas Bus Station, "but was pronounced dead at Parkland Hospital", according to his death certificate. His death was caused by a "Coronary Thrombosis" -which is stated on his death certificate, which is called, "Acute dilation of the heart. He lived 15 minutes after the heart attack.
His sister, Mrs. Ruth Elliett, 409 Eada Street, gave the information on his death certificate. Loudermilk-Sparkman Company, Inc., Dallas, Texas. Joe was buried in New Oak Cliff Cemetery, February 14, 1929. No stone has been found.
