He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Rfn Fentiman was killed as a result of small arms fire during a foot patrol near Sangin in central Helmand Province.
Aged 23, from Cambridge. He joined the Territorial Army 7 Rifles battalion in 2007 following two years at East Midlands University Officer Training Corps. In civilian life he studied mechanical engineering and worked a regional sales manager for a software firm. He volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan and mobilised in June 2009. He was described as a bright and professional soldier with considerable potential. Fen, as he was known, had a kind and cheerful manner that was a constant source of morale for his unit. The nickname Chosen Man, as shown on the wreaths in the photos, originally referred to a "chosen man" who would take control of the section if the Corporal was to be killed or wounded. He also enjoyed playing rugby and was a member of the Cambridge Rugby Club from 1993 to 2004.
Rfn Fentiman leaves his parents Kevin and Lynda, brother Adam and sisters Elizabeth and Leanne, along with other family and friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on November 30, 2009 at St Andrews Church, Oakington, followed by private burial.
