He moved to San Antonio and purchased vast quanties of cotton to ship to Mexico under contract with the state cotton board.
The war ended before Alexander, could reap the profits of this transaction.
DIED: July 23, 1865, New Orleans.
BURIED: Girod Saint Cemetery, New Orleans.
His nephew called him a businessman " of superior executive ability " but " addicted to intemperance. "
According to Sidney Jackman, Alexander admitted he " had no courage, and was utterly unfit for an officer."
Girod Street Cemetery (Defunct)
Plot: the Girod Cemetery is no longer in existence. The remains of the cemetery are underneath a shopping center and parts of the Superdome.
