John Farquharson, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Farquharson, an electrical engineer, came to Oak Ridge in 1944 as a member of the Special Engineer Detachment and was employed at the Oak Ridge K-25 Site. He retired in 1981.

He was born in Ransomville, N.Y., on April 4, 1917, the son of James and Lena Farquharson. He was a graduate of Alfred University.

Mr. Farquharson was a member of First Christian Church and served the church as deacon, elder and trustee. He was also honored by being named elder emeritus.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois Ann Farquharson; his daughter, JoAnn King and her husband, David; two sons, George Farquharson and his wife, Carol, and John Amos Farquharson and his wife, Kelli; four grandchildren, Lee Ann Shelton and her husband, Steve, Amy Beth King, Courtney Farquharson and Nathan Farquharson; and his great-grandson, Cade Shelton, all of the Oak Ridge area.

Mr. Farquharson is also survived by his sister, Mary Venneman of Buffalo, N.Y.; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at First Christian Church. The Rev. Laura Odiorne will officiate.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 3, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church Friday following the funeral.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of gifts to First Christian Church, 203 Michigan Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
