He entered the U.S. Army Air Force on Feb. 7, 1943, in Rutland. He served his tour of duty in Europe as an airplane gunner and qualified marksman. He received a Purple Heart, Eame Theater Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters for his efforts. He was honorably discharged Oct. 23, 1945, at Grenier Field in New Hampshire.
Dec. 27, 1945, he married Frances Hilda Clark in Wolcott. Harley was employed all of his working years as a machinist for the C. Dana Co. in Hyde Park.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances on Sept. 8, 1995, and four sisters, Velma Cote, Kyra Hilliker, Laila Belle Levesque and Mildred Griswold.
