He was converted and became a member of the United Bretheren Church in 1910, in which he took active part until his last illness. As a Christian character he was indeed :long suffering and kind" silent in adversity, steadfast, loyal and true to the end. He was a loving husband and father, an excellent neighbor and faithful friend.

He is survived by his widow; three sons: Raymond, Ronald, and Loren; two sisters Emily Anderson of Harlan, and Elsie Cooley of Emporia; two half-sisters Sadie Petre of Gaylord, and Lizzie Merrit of Paxco, Wash; and one half brother, Robert McClain of Osage, Iowa. "Gene McClain Dead"

It is almost impossible for the friends of Gene McClain to realize that he is gone. He was forced to abandon his work soon after the close of school last spring as the result of an accident with his maintainer. He was bedfast all summer having developed a mysterious kind of heart trouble which baffled his physicians and he was gone almost before we knew it.

Nothing we can say can add or detract from the reputation which Mr. McClain holds in this community buy his loss is a distinct one to this institution since two of the teachers were in the home last year. We have valued the friendship of this citizen more than we are able to express and his loss is regretted beyond measure.
