ALBERT WALRATH
Albert E. "Wally" Walrath, 86, of Milan RR 1, PA died Tuesday, August 18, 1998 at the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit of the Memorial Hospital. He was born August 21, 1911 in Linesville, PA, Crawford County, the son of Franklin and Bertha Bishop Walrath. He grew up in Fairview, PA, graduated from Fairview High School and Pennsylvania State College. He began his teaching career at SRU Joint School on March 1, 1936. During World War II he worked at Remington Rand in Elmira, NY, taught veterans returning to the farm and returned to teaching at SRU in 1953. In 1960 he went into full-time dairy farming with his son David. He married Grace Elsbree in 1938 and they moved to the present Snowcrest Farm in 1951. He was a member of Laurel Hill Grange No. 1161 until it closed in 1981. He was a charter member of Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Richard and Patricia Loomis; John and Charlotte McDermott of Apalachin, NY; sons and daughter-in-law, David E. and Gail Walrath of Milan, PA and Rev. Dean A. Walrath of Shickshinny, PA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters and his wife Grace, who died in 1989. Funeral services were held at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home in Athens, August 20 with the Rev. Robert Finch officiating and burial to be in the Union Cemetery, East Smithfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church c/o Judy Sargeant, RR 3, Troy, PA 16947. (TGR, Thursday, August 27, 1998)
