|Birth: ||Mar. 24, 1606|
John Robinson, Jr. bapt. Mar. 24, 1605/6 at St. Peter Hungate Church at Norwich, England. He was a May 1630 graduate in medicine from the University of Caen at Normandy, France. In Oct. 1643 he was residing in England when his mother made her will at Leiden, Holland.
While residing in England, Dr. Robinson published three works, one entirely in Latin. He considered Dr. Thomas Browne (1605-1682) of Norwich, England one of his closest friends. He also became acquainted with Rev. William Greenhill (1591-1671), pastor of the Stepney Independent (Congregational) Church then in the eastern suburbs of the City of London. Dr. Robinson was also acquainted in England with Rev. Thomas Allen (1608-1673) born at Norwich, England. In 1639 Rev. Allen married in New England as his first wife, Ann Sadler, the widow of Rev. John Harvard, namesake of the world renowned Harvard University at Cambridge, Mass. Rev. Allen administered John Harvard's estate and by 1652 returned to Norwich, England during the Cromwell era.
In July 1633 it was known in New England that Dr. Robinson was married, and two children are mentioned by name in his mother's 1643 will. The memorialist believes Dr. Robinson had at least two wives and children born after 1643 in England who are of record in the Stepney Church baptism records. Dr. Robinson died after Apr. 1658, the date his third work was published at London and Norwich, England. Whether he died in England or elsewhere is presently unknown; there is no evidence that he removed to America. There also is no current information regarding the fate of Dr. Robinson's family.
