Byron Moses Brabazon died at seven o'clock on July 20,1973, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 9 days at his homestead near Lodgepole, S. Dak. Cause of death was the loss of balance and a fall.
Byron Moses Brabazon was born May 11,1885, in Michigan to Albert John Brabazon and Alviria Coolige Brabazon. His early life was spent in Clio, Michigan from 1885-1905 where he attended grade school and high school.
In 1905, he left Michigan and came to N. Dak. to work in the harvest fields. Here he met Evalyn Ann Smith and they were married Dec. 23, 1905, in Ellendale, N. Dak. To this union was born 4 sons and 1 daughter.
Later, he worked for the Government at Mandan, N. Dak. and helped build the Chicago Railroad Bridge at Mobridge, SD in 1906-1907. From there he came to Perkins County in a wagon and homesteaded on his birthday, May 11, 1907. Here he resided as a farmer for 66 years.
When moving from Coldwater, ND to his homestead by wagon, one of his horses took sick near Old Seim. He turned the sick horse loose and held up the neck-yolk himself while the other horse pulled the load the remainder of the way. Later, he went back to Old Seim, his sick horse had recovered and was running with a band of wild horses. He caught his horse and took him home. He paid his first taxes in Butte County at Belle Fourche, SD, and his first meal in Hettinger was eaten in a tent. He was a schoolteacher in Coldwater, ND, and worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad in Idaho.
Pops, as he was known by everyone, took an active part in the community, and was very fond of his country. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Lodgepole, SD, served on the school board for thirty years, on the township board, the AAA community Committee, and the AAA County Committee.
Preceding him in death was his wife, his eldest son Lyle of Haynes, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 grandchildren, 1 grandchild, and 1 great great grandchild. He leaves to mourn him 3 sons;Glenn, Raymond and Floyd of Lodgepole; 1 daughter, Genevieve Randall of Hettinger; 2 sisters, Linnie Peterson of Clio, Mich., and Eva Brown of Flint, Mich; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many friends' and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on July 24, 1973. at the Congregational : Church in Hettinger, ND, with Rev. Lawrence PJuell officiating. Pall bearers were Merril Gunderson and Harold LeFebre of Lodgepole, SD, Walter Doerr Of Hettinger ND, Herman Hendricks and Alvin Ellingson of Ralph, SD., and Edwin Harris of Prairie City, SD. Interment was in the Lodgepole Cemetery.
The Holland Center Quartet sang Lead Me to Calvary and A Beautiful Life. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Roland Miller of Lodgepole. SD.
